The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the organization's compliance with all Company, federal, state and local laws and ordinances as they pertain to environmental, health, and safety.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Foster and promote a safe and participative work environment by ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) laws and regulations; including those for properly handling materials.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS policies and programs. 
  • Assist with monitoring and ensuring the effectiveness of in-house EHS programs, including training and documentation.  Develop and conduct EHS training as needed.
  • Conduct facility inspections to identify and address compliance issues.
  • Collect and update data for EHS programs, permits, and records.  Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and the public on EHS matters as needed.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses to determine causes and preventative measures.  Analyze EHS trends and assist with the implementation of improvement projects when needed.
  • Evaluate new processes or equipment for safety features.
  • Manage the selection and distribution of personal protective equipment and first aid supplies.
  • Assist with the management of medical surveillance programs.

 

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field w/ a minimum of five years' experience in administering environmental, health, and safety programs in a manufacturing or industrial setting; chemical production environment is preferred.  The equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience with programs such as Process Safety Management (PSM) and/or Risk Management Plan (RMP) is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills w/ an attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization and a demonstrated ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and systems of safety are required.

 

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to walk, sit, climb stairs and use hands to finer, handle, or feel.
  • Occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to lift up to and/or more up to 40 pounds.
