R&D Pilot Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op

Program Summary 

A Co-Op position at Heraeus Medevio offers students an 8-month (May 2027-December 2027) hands-on, immersive, and project-based experience in R&D and Operations engineering fields. Engineering Co-Ops work under the guidance of experienced engineers to contribute to real-world projects in areas like design, testing, manufacturing, or product development. Co-Ops can expect to work on medical device innovations while receiving professional mentorship and industry exposure. This will be an on-site position in our Fridley, MN location. Occasional travel to the White Bear Lake, MN location may be needed. 

Position Summary  

The R&D Pilot Manufacturing Engineer Co-op will gain hands-on experience supporting early-stage medical device manufacturing and the development of a safe, controlled, and efficient R&D pilot manufacturing environment. Projects may include implementing plant layout changes and 5S improvements, manufacturing procedures for manufacturing equipment and processes, and establishing visual management and process controls. 

The individual will also support development and clinical builds by working with engineering and operations teams to ensure manufacturing activities are executed according to established good manufacturing practices. This role provides broad exposure to R&D manufacturing while contributing to the systems, standards, and processes needed to transition developing products toward repeatable production. 

What You’ll Do Every Day: 

• Support execution of early development and clinical manufacturing builds.  
• Develop manufacturing procedures and work instructions for manufacturing equipment and processes. 
• Support plant layout, 5S, visual management, and workflow improvements. 
• Collect and analyze manufacturing data to support engineering decisions. 
• Partner with operators, technicians, and engineers to troubleshoot issues and improve quality, yield, and efficiency. 
• Support implementation of new equipment, processes, and manufacturing controls while maintaining a safe work environment.
• Participate in other pilot operations and R&D team meetings and activities.
• Respond to changing priorities in a timely manner.
• Other duties assigned as required.  

What We’re Looking For:  

• Currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineer, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or comparable Engineering program.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Ability to work full-time onsite during the duration of the co-op.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
• Driven to learn more about real-world application of academic engineering concepts. 

Medevio is committed to providing competitive total compensation and benefits packages. The expected hiring range for this position is between $20.00/hr and $26.00/hr based upon a full-time schedule. This is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. Base salaries are determined by taking a variety of factors in account, including, but not limited to, candidate qualifications, geographic locations, market conditions and internal equity. This position is bonus eligible. Our total compensation package for interns and co-ops may also include eligibility for a 401(k) plan with company match and paid time off.
