Your role and responsibilities

  • Job Summary – As an Electronics Technician (Troubleshoot and Repair) you will disassemble (and reassemble) a wide variety of small, simple to moderately-complex preeleelectronic instruments and components which are used to determine properties of molten metal.  You will troubleshoot the units to determine problems and make repairs to components and circuit boards.  You will also test, validate, and in some cases, calibrate instruments to pre-determined specifications.  This work is somewhat routine but requires problem solving skills which may involve some detail and variation.
  • Disassemble the malfunctioning or damaged electronic instruments or components that have been returned from the customer.  (Instruments are our own and are not other manufacturer’s)
  • Troubleshoot the unit(s) to determine the problem by using standard, common-sense problem solving techniques. (i.e., use information provided by customer, inspect parts visually, isolate the problem using electronic test and measurement equipment, read manuals, collaborate with coworkers, engineers or outside sales/service techs, etc.)
  • Repair the problem(s) and correctly reassemble the instruments and/or components.
  • Upload or install pre-established standardized software and firmware.  Complete minor set up of software/firmware in BIOS according to standard instructions. Perform simple software tests.
  • Test and validate repaired instruments and components within quality parameters (such as light sets, scoreboards, wireless home station computers).
  • Calibrate instruments as required to standard instrument ranges which involves manually inputting set points and using proprietary calibration equipment.
  • Operate in accordance and in full compliance with all applicable ISO:9001 and ISO:17025 standards and procedures.  Complete all required records in both electronic and paper format.

What is required for this role

  • A 2-year technical school degree in electronics or military equivalent or 2 years of related experience assembling, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, validating, and calibrating small, simple to moderately-complex electronic instruments to the board level. (This does not involve circuit board repair.)
  • This work is somewhat routine but requires demonstrated problem solving skills which may involve some detail and variation.
  • Experience operating industry-common and proprietary electronic test and measurement equipment.
  • Good basic math skills.
  • Experience with small hand tools.
  • Proficient in basic software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Windows 7 and 10 environments.
  • Experience working in an ISO:9001 and 17025 certified environment is a plus.
  • Experience communicating with field service technicians and customers is a plus.
